Fire Service To Get Ambulances
by Kendal Burton
Fire officials say they are closer to receiving some much needed ambulances to augment their severely depleted fleet. The department has suffered from heavy public criticism following the unavailability of an ambulance to transport a senior citizen who later died and the revelation that the department only had one ambulance to service the entire Castries district.
Deputy Fire Chief Lambert Charles says steps are being taken address this and to bolster public confidence in the beleaguered fire department.
He says funds have been provided for the acquisition of the vehicles, but because of the nature of the machines, it will take some time for the vehicles to be custom fitted according to the department’s specifications and needs.
He says at least two ambulances are expected by year end with four more expected in the New Year.
